President's Note - March

Saturday, 06th March 10

Welcome everybody to the 2010 Junior AFL Season, we have much to look forward to and indeed live up to after a fantastic year last year.

Welcome everybody to the 2010 Junior AFL Season. We have much to look forward to and indeed live up to after a fantastic year last year, crowned with the recognition of the club as Sydney Harbour City Club of the Year.

Words seem completely insufficient however we again thank Darren Lewtas, and of course Frances and the family, as any volunteer that does as much as Darren has for our club does not do so without significant personal and family sacrifices, for all he has done for us in the past and especially as President. We could not be more fortunate to have been able to harness Darren’s immense passion and knowledge of football to continue in such a giving and active role with the club as Football Manager and Coaches Co-ordinator.

It has been terrific to see so many of the players already on the training track on a Tuesday afternoon yet we sincerely understand at this time of the year there may be many clashes with other sporting commitments and associated finals underway or looming. That said we would certainly stress the administrative need please to have you register your champion as soon as possible so we can complete our planning, both internally and at League level, as to definitely how many teams are to be in each age group. This has been well publicized and underway for over a month now, so if you haven’t done so, please act now!

Our club of course can only exist with the efforts of one and many (it would be nice to be able to say all!) as you volunteer your time to assist with the various aspects of running the club. Coaching, Managing, canteen, BBQ, ground set up / clean up etc etc etc. If you have already put your hand up for season 2010 we sincerely thank you, if you are about to then we look forward in anticipation.

The next and most immediate and important task is for us to be able to assign a Team manager to each team (which is of course linked to being able to understand exactly how many teams – refer above comment and register please). We will be sending a separate email focused on this role and seeking people to come forward to assist in this regard. Some of you have already emerged or indeed maintained your enthusiastic involvement from seasons past and to those people a huge thank you.

Your executive and general committee has been working very hard over recent months (indeed since last season ended) in order to be able to bring the best possible AFL experience to all of you this season. We look forward in anticipation to what lays ahead and we especially welcome so many new faces and families to the club. This has been a most rewarding aspect of the registration to date with well over 40 new players coming to Drummoyne and across all age groups.

Let’s go Power,

David
