History & Constitution
Drummoyne Power Junior Australian Football Club
Founded 1999
In the first year as as a registered club Drummoyne Power fielded one (Under 12) team. From those humble beginnings in 1999 to 2010, Drummoyne Power has had 881 registered players and fielded 92 registered teams.
The growth and success of the club comes from the committment of a wide range of people, not least the 40 individual coaches, supported by 62 individual managers who have guided our teams over the last 11 years. This rich lode of footy smarts was drawn from over 600 participating families. That’s nearly 1 in 6 Power families who’ve volunteered their time and enthusiasm to the operations and functions of the Club, as well as the titans on whose shoulders the Club has risen.
Success came very early on to Drummoyne Power. Our sole team became Under 12's Premiers in 1999. Since then 24 teams have reached the finals, 4 becoming premiers. Many players over the years have played at representative level and received honours.
In 2010, a year with the highest player registrations so far, Drummoyne Power fielded 16 teams across Auskick, Junior and Youth levels.
How the Club was Founded
Phil Dixon thought of the idea of starting Drummoyne Power. He asked Robyn and Tom Wilmot if they would support the concept of a new team, he then asked Sean Clancy. All parties agreed that it would be a good idea. Tom Wilmot and Sean Clancy both loaned $1000 each to get the club started. There was a meeting at the Wilmot’s attended by Phil Dixon, Robyn Wilmont, Tom Wilmont, Sean Clancey, Phil Nelson and Brian Farrell. Phil brought a bottle of French champagne, which was opened to celebrate its foundation. Hilary suggested we take the Port Power colours and song, it was agreed and so Drummoyne Power came into existence.
