2011 Preliminary Final Match Report - U14
Drummoyne 9-5-59 def Hornsby Berowra 7-3-45
Hornsby came out of the blocks all guns blazing and l think shocked us all !!!! They kicked 5 goals straight and we were a little shell shocked and slow around the ground. We finally got on the board right on the siren with a goal kicked by Bailey.
After some words of wisdom from the coaching staff at the break we came out a different team. We were wining the ball out of the middle. A great mark from DT then kick to Simon and mark got our first goal of the quarter. So great work out of the middle again and a great mark from Nic Ford was unlucky to be a behind. A great tackle from Lachie B gave him a free kick and a goal. The boys all pulled their weight and chased and tackled hard. Another tap out of the middle cleared by Bailey and he kicked the last goal of the quarter. We kept the opposition to 1 goal 1 behind and we were slowly chipping away at their lead.
The red frogs worked at halftime with us having 6 shots at goal, but unlucky to only to have 2 goals scored. And again keeping them to only 1 goal, and us only being down by 2 points at the last break. Nic Ford put on some great pressure and was unlucky with a behind, but quickly changed that in the next passage of play with a great goal. Elijah showed his handball skills with a great centre clearance to Bailey who kicked down to Caley for an unlucky behind. Luke Egan placed some great pressure and a never give up attitude to cause a turn over. Some great chase from Xavier caused them to kick out on the full. He kicked it in and was marked by Lachie B and he kicked the goal. Some great hard chase and bumps by Lachie J and Simon and really all the boys unsettled the opposition.
The last quarter we showed our Drummoyne Spirit !!! The supporters on the sideline were cheering with all their might and the colours were flying high. The quarter started off well with a quick centre clearance and goal to Billy to put us in front for the first time in the match and we didn't look back. A great smoother from James Ford was inspiring. Another goal was kicked by Nic Ford which was great and kept the boys up and about. After some great pressure and chase from Brendan Parry left him with a knock to the head but he continued to play and did very well. Xavier had a great clearance from a throw in to score another goal. The opposition had a couple of attempts at goal, but the amazing back line put on the pressure and only allowed behinds to be scored. Well Done Backline !!!!!
Finally the siren sounds and we win and are through to the Grand Final!! It was amazing come back being 24 points behind and turning it into a 14 point win, winning every quarter after the first!
Great work boys very are all very proud of you.
Drummoyne will have Grand Finals fever this weekend - U10's and U12's on Saturday and U13's and U14's on Sunday.
