2011 R17 Match Report - U14

Well what a way to finish off the home and away season!!! It was a great game to watch with some amazing passages of play and just shows how much the boys have improved and become a great team! Xavier was a little unwell, Nic Bertino had been resting all week with shin splints and Luke Egan dragged himself out of his sick bed, and we are thankful he did as he played an amazing game... Involved in everything!
Our great game started with a super goal from Elijah. Callum S defended well and cleared the ball out of the back to Nick B. Some great tackles from James Ford and Ethan with some great marks from Matt Bass helped stop the opposition from creating opportunities to score. A great ruck tap from Lachie J, cleared by Billy to Spider, kick to Michael was unlucky to only be a behind as it hit the post on the way through. A great clearance from Xavier ( build the wall !!) Nelson on to Luke Egan to Lachie B resulted in a goal. Another inspirational play by the sick Luke with his smother resulted in another goal to Lachie B, to finish of a great 1st quarter.
The second quarter started of as we finished the 1st, with a great tackle from Billy, great run from Lachie J with a kick and mark to spider. Luke Egan stole the ball out of his opponents hands which resulted in a behind.. We had 9 shots at goal this quarter for 3 goals one of which was a terrific run through the middle and huge kick for a goal from Alex Perry. There was some great forward work from Dylan and Elijah which was unlucky not to result in a couple more goals.. Great follow up work for his own tap by Spider who kicked it on to Luke then to Caley for a great passage of play and goal. Another great tap from Spider, was cleared to Luke then marked and goaled by Dylan Higgs.. a great reward for some hard work. Some great work around the ground by Ethan, Alex, Simon was inspiring.. The never give up attitude was evident with the great score line and the poor backline having not a lot to do as the ball hardly passed the centre of the ground .
The 3rd quarter again saw us have 7 shots at goal for 3 goals. Some great work from our U13 top up boys Calum Lavery and James Wilson was teriffic to see.. They slotted into the team very easily. Nic Ford, Joshua Iacono, Matt Bass, Caley, Yarnold and Callum Smith were trying to stay warm along with X in the back half as the ball didn't venture down that way to often. There was some more great passages of play with team work playing a major role.. Handballing , shepherding and tackling all played a big part in this win. Billy cleared the ball to Dylan who kicked to Lachie J who then kicked to Luke who took a strong mark but unfortunately hit the post. A great ground ball pick up by Dylan then went to Lachie B who got a free kick also resulted in a behind. Some great work for Alex onto Elijah onto Dylan resulted in a great goal. Lachie B kicked the ball into the forward line and an amazing mark was taken by Luke Egan (who also accidentally took out the fullback who had stopped a lot of out kicks going through as he last man in defense.) and kicked the goal. Great pressure was placed by Lachie J, Simon, Billy and Luke was great to see. A great centring kick by Elijah was marked by Lachie B resulting in another goal and our last for the quarter. Some great pressure on the ball.. 1 against 3 by James Ford was awesome and he never gave up... Well done.
After some discussions by the backline to the coach some changes were made which resulted in a goal from Xavier. Another mark from X kicked to Billy resulted in another goal. A great passage of play from Alex, Lachie B, Nic B, Billy, Nic B back to Billy resulted in a behind as it skimmed the post on the way. Matt Bass took a great mark and went for a run through the middle. Billy kicked the ball to Nic B who got a second kick at the goals after his opponent run over the mark and he scored the goal. Spider to Billy kicked to Michael who got a free down field as Billy was dropped after his kick... Resulted in a goal for Michael. A great tap from Spider went to Luke which resulted in a great goal from Elijah. Lachie J had a great tap and clearance to Luke , to Lachie B, to X resulted in a goal kicked by Billy. Another great run and thumping kick by Alex resulted in a great goal from him.
Overall this was a great way to finish and get ready for the finals next week. At this stage it looks like we will finish 3rd ahead of St Ives , Western Suburbs on top and Hornsby/ Berowra 2nd. Will let everyone know once finals have been allocated. Thanks again to u13's Calum and James for filling in and also to Nic Bertino for filling in again.
