What can we say - so Proud! Under 13s - the Shine in '09 was mighty Fine!

Well, after 6 months of working hard on the track and putting in for the Drummoyne jumper all year, it all came down to this .. Grand final day 2009. The boys’ opponents were Hornsby-Berowra and these games have always been close, hard fought encounters.  An inspirational run by Tom set up our first goal. This was the first of many attacking runs by Tom. Chris was starting to make his presence felt and kicked the team’s first goal as we started to get on top.

The first quarter was a tight struggle and both teams had their opportunities. The back line was involved early and Matt stood tall on the last line of defence and was helped by Jack, who stuck to his man all game.  Mitch began strongly and played a huge game stopping their attacks time and time again and Alex continued his recent good form by making a contest of every ball when he was involved.

The second quarter was fantastic as the boys dug deep and kept the play in our forward line for most of the quarter. Joel was having a huge impact on the game and running with the ball, kicking deep in the forward line.  Hugo was a target and he had good support from Brendan and Aron and they combined well to keep the ball in an attacking position throughout the quarter.  Jordan, after taking a knock early, began to assert himself and time and time again collected the ball and kicked it deep into attack. He was showing his “Association Best & Fairest” form and was a true leader on the field.Ryan was starting to become involved and make an impact. Daniel was always close to the play in the forward line and had some important touches.

The third quarter saw some inspirational play by Jake, who had kicked a goal earlier and did not give up and his attack on the ball lead to a wonderful goal by Ryan. Oliver took a great mark in the third quarter to steady the ship and Nick B was reliable as always and made the most of his opportunities.  Cameron D was making a nuisance of himself around the fall of the ball and arguably the most important play of the day was a great smother by Jordan - deep in their forward line, late in the quarter and right in front of their cheer squad!  Ka Yin was getting plenty of the ball on his wing and (as always) he combined well with  James, who had so much of the ball and (as always) was in and under the packs without any fear.

Drummoyne were a couple of goals up at 3 quarter time and the game was in the balance.  Cameron G stepped up during the quarter and probably played his best quarter of football for the season. He ran and ran and his attack on the football was sensational.  Nick G did not stop running all game and kicked a wonderful goal from the pocket midway through the last quarter, which was significant and added to an earlier goal in the 3rd quarter.  Joe was a star and was thrown from defence to attack many times during the game and did a superb job.

Goal kickers Ryan 2, Nick 2, Chris, Jake

The boys did not stop all game and as they have all season played as a team and for each other. They can now say they are a Premiership Winning Team and will have that with them for the rest of their lives. Congratulations to all players...you all have played a role in your success this year.

A special congratulations to Nick G, who was announced Best Player of the game and presented with the match day ball.
Thank you to all the Parents ... you have been a wonderful, supportive group to the team. The team's success is in part because of your help over the season.
Thank you to Simon (“Super Coach”) and Alex for all you hours of work with the boys. We hope the “Coaching ‘A’ Team” can stay together again next season.
Congratulations Drummoyne Power U13s ... Premiers 2009, Team of the Year 2009 (City Association) ... you deserve the success you have now achieved.
