Girl player recruiting by Power
RECRUITING girls to Aussie Rules will be the focus of Drummoyne Power Junior Football Club this season.
The club’s girls co-ordinator Andrew Hamilton said Drummoyne wanted more girls aged 6-15 years to take up the sport.
‘‘I think the biggest challenge is probably going to be reassuring parents that their children will be playing in a safe and friendly environment,’’ he said.
The AFL’s Sydney Harbour and Illawarra participation manager Simon Smyth said the rules are adapted to ensure safety on the field. Smyth said the Power’s recruitment goal would help grow the game in Sydney’s inner west.
The Power will hold a registration day on Sunday, February 4, at Drummoyne Oval from 10am to 2pm.
