Round 10 Match Report - U13

Drummoyne vs. Baulkham Hills at Charles McLaughlin Reserve

It was a frosty winter morning in the Hills for football and unfortunately for Drummoyne the final score was just as frosty. After a good win last week in our first run in Div 2, this week Baulkham Hills showed us exactly what Div 2 footy was all about! We were 5 players down and this had an effect all over the ground.

We started off in the first quarter very competitively, Caley was chasing hard, Luke was smothering and Ben was spoiling. Michael kicked our first goal assisted by Will. Dylan centered a kick into the forwards to allow Elijah to kick our second. At the first break we were down only two goals.

In the second quarter Caley and Alex worked hard in the backs but we couldn’t seem to get the ball through the centre, we kept turning the ball over to the opposition. DT’s efforts putting his head over the ball were rewarded with a free kick and 50m penalty to allow him to kick our only goal this quarter. At the big break we trailed by 39 points.

The Hawks kept us scoreless this quarter but the boys never gave up and kept giving their best. Joshua was running hard and Caley and Alex continued their great work in defense. There were some good strong marks taken all over the ground but we couldn’t find targets to convert the good work into goals. We went into the last break 64 points down.

We were kept scoreless again this quarter but lifted to show the opposition we were down but not out. Spida impressed today with his efforts chasing hard, tackling and taking some great marks. Alex was also impressive doing everything he could to lift the team. There were some exciting passages of play involving a number of players allowing the ball to move up the ground into our forwards but the Hawks defense held strong. It was great to see the boys still putting in 100% right up until the final siren sounded. The final score certainly didn’t reflect the efforts of the whole team.

Thanks to Frank for waving the white flags, our runner Peter who had his work cut out on the large ground and to Lachlan (and his Grandpa) who made the long trip out to cheer on the team even though he was injured and not taking the field.

Final Score: Drummoyne 3.1.19 Baulkham Hills 15.14.104
