Round 10 Match Report - U7s
Under 7s vs Easts
With a last minute venue change the Drummoyne Power Under 7s took to the field at Five Dock Park to do battle with the Bulldogs from the East.
The Dogs got out to an early start with a couple of quick goals within minutes until the Power back line of Gabriella, William and Angus steadied themselves and put on some real defensive moves to plug the gaps and stop the scoring. The three Power defenders all played well with a great mark by Gabriella, some fantastic run out of defense by William and a couple of long kicks to the midfield by Angus.
Following a couple of training sessions with the team, Ned made his first appearance as a member of the Power under 7’s. With his first touch of the ball, Ned scored a great goal that caused no movement from the goal umpire as he saw the ball soar directly over his head. The Power were now on the board and all players were itching to contribute.
Tom, Max, Gilbert and Alex all got some handy possessions in the first term as they kicked straight and brought their team mates into the game.
The second term saw a change of positions and as the Dogs went forward, the Power were lucky to have Tom in the backs as he took a great mark right on the goal line to stop the dogs from gaining some momentum. With a quick pass from Tom, Angus sent the Power into attack with a kick that would have made Paul Roos sit up and pay attention. Now, clearly in attack mode, the Power made some great plays that saw Max and Will kick quick consecutive goals and almost saw Ned kick his second on the siren to end the second term.
The third term started with some great ball movement and a super kick from Tom to get things going. Quick possessions to Will and Gabriella saw Gilbert with a successful snap at goal. The ball quickly turned back to the Bulldogs and just as it looked like the Dogs would score, Alex took a spectacular mark in defense. His careful delivery of the ball to Tom and then kicks from Max and Angus saw Ned with another successful shot on goal.
At the centre bounce Angus put the Power into attack once again and started the best run of possessions in the game. Angus tapped the ball to Ned who hand balled to Tom. Tom went for a run and then kicked straight to Max. Max offloaded the ball to Gabriella whose quick handball to Will saw Will kick truly and the Power had another. Within seconds, Gabriella had kicked another and the match looked like it was won. The Dogs pulled themselves together and although the Power defense was great and the players held tight, the Dogs scored a few quick goals and the game was tied. Alex stuck to his opponent like glue and prevented his player from adding to the score line.
In the end a gallant effort that ended in a draw. Well done Power, a great team effort.
