Round 11 Match Report - U12 Teal
Drummoyne vs Easts Red
It was perfect weather for footy at Alan Davidson Oval as Teal took on Easts Red who are 2nd on the ladder.
Teal came out hard from the start, with all the play at Easts end but we couldn't convert into points. Easts scored a lucky goal the first time they got a shot at our posts.
The boys steadied their attack to notch up three goals, for the quarter to lead 22-19 at the break.
Power goaled from the first play of the quarter, then easts hit back with two of their own. This was a very evenly matched contest that saw the lead change with each goal.
The midfield of Ben, Liam, Dylan,Tommy and Sandy were having big games dishing out some punishing tackling to the Easts boys and feeding quality ball to our forwards.
Teal slotted three goals for the quarter including an individual effort from Tommy , who marked the ball before kicking, regathering, and booting on the run for a superb goal.
Easts scored another fortuitous goal seconds before halftime to lead by 2 points 45-43. The 50/50 umpiring decisions seemed to be going Easts way.
After words of encouragement from stand-in coaches Peter and Elias the boys came out and took back the lead through a goal to Ben fed by Seb. The backs, Angus, nectar and Seb were doing a fantastic job of containing the strong Easts forward pack, thus keeping their score down to a gettable target.
The arm wrestle continued with neither side able to pull away. Dylan booted home a towering goal, his fourth, on 3/4 time to put Teal's nose in front by one point 63-62.
Easts jumped out to what could have been a winning 8 point lead if it wasn't for our boys steely determination .Harry, Jack, Nick and Harrison all made great contributions to their teams effort. This situation called for cool heads and our boys delivered. Teal chipped away with 3 behinds and then the goal of the day -which saw Dylan kick to Ben who kicked to Jonny who kicked to Tommy who slotted the big 6 pointer
to take back the lead by one! Captain Liam then booted home the winner to give Teal a 7 point buffer, but Easts kept coming until the final hooter.
End result: 11.11-77 to 11.5-71.
Great game, great win and great to hear the Power victory song echoing across Alan Davidson Oval. Well done boys!
