Drummoyne 9.9 63 def Kellyville 7.5 47
A great day for AFL greeted the U14s at Drummoyne Oval for their game against Kellyville. Cameron D was playing his 50th game and had a terrific match. His tackling was instrumental in setting up a couple of goals and his attack on the ball was unwavering. The team had a very good first half , set up by some very strong running from Jordon T and excellent ruck work by Mitch. Much of the game was played in the team's forward line and this created plenty of opportunities for Daniel and Oliver who played a key role deep in the forward line. This allowed Joseph to drift out and present as a target. They all applied good forward pressure which helped Alex R and Jordan D have shots on goal and convert. The team had opened up a 3 goal lead at the major break and the focus shifted to building on this lead in the second half.
This is exactly what they did in the 3rd quarter, helped by some good play by James who was finding plenty of space and running hard as well as Cameron G who became a ball magnet and was in the play for much of the quarter. He ran himself into the ground in this quarter and needed a rest for the final run home. Jake was playing his usual tough game and had plenty of clearance kicks and Jack was doing a great job keeping his opponents in check.
The team tired in the last quarter and a couple of players had to rest after running hard for the day and although they were outscored by their opponents in they did enough to hold on for a very well earned win. Well done to all the team for your determined effort after the break.
