Round 11 Match Report - U9 Black

Drummoyne Black 15 – 6 – 96 V Newtown Gold 4 – 8 – 32

On a fine and sunny July morning, Drummoyne Black took the field against Newtown Gold. The first term got under way with the boys a little disjointed but they soon found their rhythm. Marks were taken by Alex, Brendan and Ben, with Brendan saving a goal with a mark directly in front of the posts. Ethan also saved a goal in front shortly after copping one in the bread basket but he recovered nicely. Just before the end of the term, Alex took a mark, kicked to Ben, who then kicked a goal on the hooter – the highlight passage of play in the first term. Ben and Alex scored prolifically in the first third.

The second term saw goal of the day scored by Fraser, who scored from the sideline while on the run. Goals were scored in this third by Fraser and Luke. Michael displayed excellent passing skills in this stanza while playing mid-field. Xavier in only in his second game this season due to an unrelated injury, threw himself into the mix with cautious enthusiasm. Ethan provided excellent support across the midfield. A great effort by Luke when, with raised arms, he blocked a kick from a Newtown mark. Samuel also took several marks this term.

The third term welcomed a new player, Charlie, who brought forth his soccer skills and was not shy in getting involved and having a go. A great first attempt and we look forward to seeing more from him. Michael kicked a goal but was disallowed as he held onto the ball just a little too long. Goals were scored by Samuel and Brendan, with Luke taking mark of the day. Xavier continued to improve as he demonstrated he could find empty space in attack.

Special thanks to Billy for graciously filling a position on Newtown’s side and trying his hardest to keep Fraser from touching the ball.

Best team player goes to Alex, most improved player Michael, and player of the match Ben - with four goals. Overall it was an excellent game by the boys. Newtown played well with some great marks, but Drummoyne outpaced them.
