Round 11 Match Report - U9 Silver

Under 9 Silver vs Newtown

With near even numbers no boys were required to play for the opposition.

The team took some time to shake of the rust of school holidays and no training. Newtown took advantage of this with strong play from the midfield and caught Power cold for the first term.

Strong marks to Luke and Brendan kept them in the contest which was physical and tight.

The second quarter showed the evolution of the team and the thinking and skills of the boys. A tactical change to double team their strong player led to greater control of the midfield and greatly reduced Newtown’s options. Brendan and Harry in particular took on this role.

This combined with ever improving touch enabled Power to wrest control of the game which was still hard fought and close, but the tide had turned.

In the final term our tactics led to frustration in the opposition and allowed Drummoyne to dominate. Team play improved with increased handballs and options opening up.

The most pleasing part was the adaptation of tactics to counter the skills of the opposition reinforcing that football is won both in the legs and in the head. The boys’ ability to make these changes shows their increasing understanding of the game.

Goals to Luke, Joshua, Ryan, Brendan and Logan through the game ensured a deserved win.

Player of the Match: Harry
