Round 12 Match Report - U11 Black

Under 11s Black vs Newtown

The Drummoyne Power U11 Black was at full strength today against Newtown and the results speak for themselves! The team put in a gutsy effort on a greasy Five Dock playing surface to come out winners by 16 points. The conditions favoured the bowling club end with 4 Drummoyne goals in each of the 2nd and 4th quarters.

The U11 Black team led at the first change with 2 goals straight. Max showed great guts and determination with magnificent defence. Hugh and Angus combined from the midfield to move the ball forward with Angus finishing with a goal.

The second quarter was all Drummoyne with hard fought goals to Rory, James, Angus and Lewis. The goal of the quarter was taken by James, who grabbed a wobbly kick into the pocket, received a 50m penalty and finished with a great goal.

The third quarter was all Newtown with a 4 goal comeback to the favoured end. It was a tough time for the team, with a turning point being ruck changeover from Jack to Angus, great roving by Lewis, Hugh and Rory and strong defensive play by Murali and Max.

The final quarter was a tense affair with intense tackling then Drummoyne turned it on. Four goals in 10 minutes to Rory (2), Angus and James sealed the outcome with the pick of the plays being the combination of Lachie’s kick to Rory who finished with a straight left foot drop punt.

Congratulations U11 Black on a hard, competitive game. This cements the rivalry with Newtown and was a terrific team effort.
