Round 12 Match Report - U11 Teal
U11s Teal vs Concord
There were shades of the Teal of old on Saturday at Five Dock Oval. The Concord opposition won the game, but this was as much about not finding their feet quickly enough in the first quarter (too many stars in their eyes from the team photo?). After settling down and focussing on the core elements of the game, Teal was suddenly competitive again.
Joe was a particular stand out this week. There were many hit out contests but rarely, if at all, did Joe not come through with the goods. And the centre clearances for Teal, while still patchy, were built on for some impressive passages of play - Charlie and Alex provided some good examples here.
The goal of the day had to go to Riley who booted the ball truly from near enough to the centre circle and watched it well shepherded over the goal line. Angus and Jack also scored skilful six pointers.
There were also some periods of strong committed play around the pack with Rohan, Gabe, Darby, Andrew and Sean all contributing. Once again our under 10 boys proved their value – apart from Angus’ goal both he and Tom backed up from their preceding tough match to again work hard for the U11s.
Even though Eddy manned up against a big opposition unit double his size, he held his own and saved numerous scoring opportunities. Likewise, James helped out solidly in defence as well.
Overall, this week was a much better effort from the boys and it was obvious they enjoyed being a lot more competitive as well. They will be looking to build on this momentum for the final three games of the season.
