Round 12 Match Report - U12 Black
Under 12s Black vs Easts Blue
"Burke and Wills have returned!" was the cry as Jack and Coach John strode onto the lush fields of Five Dock Park after returning from the arid wastes of central Australia. The oval and the big sticks were a more welcome sight than the dig tree when it was learned Coach David had strung together 3 wins from 4 matches and instilled a new belief in the playing group.
The old foe East Blue are always a tough opponent and today was no exception.
The first quarter was a torrid affair with plenty of the tough stuff. Jarryd was a rock at centre half back and with Jack and Nick J were able to hold the Blues to one goal for the quarter.
Tom really started to dominate the ruck in the second quarter and indeed for the rest of the game as Sam and Isaac were able to get first use of the ball. Nick F got a few on the board with some huge overhead marking and Eddie chipped in with one after some hard running downfield.
Things got a bit quiet in our backline after halftime except for one inside 50 where Lachlan put on a huge bump, Rhys covered the goal and Nick A barged through the pack with three hanging off him and still managed to clear the ball. They were all lining up in the forward line in the third with 2 long goals to Patrick, a Will P special and a beautiful snap by Ollie.
Lefty took a magnificent mark in a huge pack that would have made Leo Barry proud and more goals to Nick F made it hard for the Blues in the last but the Blacks were not finished. Season debut goals to Will A and Klauss really iced the cake and at the end the mercy rule was applied.
A huge win in the context of the season against the 4th placed team shows the Blacks have really improved and are not just playing for themselves but each other.
A big thank you to David Sanders and all the parents who helped out while I was away.
