Round 12 Match Report - U13
Drummoyne vs Westbrook
Basking in the beautiful winter weather we were entertained at ELS Hall Ovak by the outstanding vocal skills of X (from his mother’s side, states Gavin), and the powerful and skilful U13 Drummoyne Power.
The boys demonstrated why they are in division 2 with some great long kicking, strong defence, and teamwork.
The first quarter started quickly with the first goal being credited to Michael, which was followed up by Luke with 2 goals. Some powerful tackling by Max saw Power go into second quarter 19 points up.
Nick started the boys off well in the second quarter, with a free kick in front of the sticks. Great ferrous defence in the second quarter by Simon lead the way to a great goal by Caley with X serenading it through the goals. The old team of entertainers were back in town, Nick, X, and Elijah to take the Power into half time, up by 28 points.
The second half of the game was set up by hard tackling by Lachy and Matt - enabling third quarter goals to Luke and Elijah. There was some great work off the ball by Alec and Brendan to keep the opposition to one behind for the quarter.
The boys responded well in the final quarter to the constant niggling by points on the board.
Strong running by Cameron and Ben saw goals to Caley, and Michael, in the final quarter. Luke was wishing the game would never end adding another 2 goals to his grand tally of 5 for the game (it was a great Sunday arvo for Francine and family).
The play of the day did not come from the players but Hamish the boundary rider. His Fred Astaire impersonation had the players in rapturous laughter and bought the crowd to their feet.
Thank you to Alex Vozzo for waving the little white flags and to our guest runner Greg Egan. We don’t know what you said to your son on the field but it sure worked!
The final score Power 70 defeated Westbrook 23.
