The U14s travelled to Riverview this week for an encounter with the undefeated top team. Super coach Simon had the team there early and the preparation was good, the boys were pumped for a tough game.

Although starting a little slow and allowing the opposition to kick a couple of early goals, the boys became very involved in the game and played a style they had not previously displayed. They were hard at the ball and applied plenty of pressure against their more fancied opponents. Nick G lad admirably taking plenty of marks around the ground and setting up the play further down the field. He was well supported by the running machines, Alex R and Tom E. Both were hungry to get the ball and covered plenty of ground which at the same time manning up on some of the more damaging opponents.

Although Drummoyne were finding it difficult to score, the ball was in the forward line regularly. Ollie snapped a wonderful goal in the 2nd quarter and although down by a few goals at half time, the team never felt out of it.

Matt had a sensational game. His judgement to get back on the last line of defence and numerous spoils saved plenty of goals. He was given good support in the backline from the 2 half back Nicks, Nick B & Nick K who tackled hard and did not allow their oppoents any free space. Jordon T was also playing an important role at centre half back and rebounding the ball time and time again. Jake was looking dangerous in the forward line and seemed to enjoy the tough encounter today. The boys continued to tackle and chase and run all day and gave their opponents a scare early in the last quarter with a couple of quick goals to Alex R and Nick G.

The scoreline did not reflect the game today. The U14s played their hearts out against their stonger opponents and seemed to enjoy the opportunity to take on the best side in the competition. All the boys made a contribution and although not getting the points they proved to themselves they can match it with the best.

A special congratulations to Mitch who played his 100th game and Jack who played his 50th game.

Thanks to CK for waving the flags and our boundary rider Jeff once again as well as the Robertson family for washing jumpers this week.

Goal kickers: Ollie, Alex R , Nick G
