Round 14 Match Report - U12 Black
Under 12s Black vs Easts Red
With 17 players to chose from it seems everyone wants to play for the Blacks this year-and no wonder. We are one of the most improved teams in the comp next to Glebe and with 5 wins from our past 6 games-in form to boot. So it was with confidence the Blacks took the field against the second placed Easts Red at a boggy Five Dock Park.
Like Lazarus, Tom rose from his sickbed and put in one of the gutsiest performances witnessed at this ground for some years while still under the weather.
The Blacks welcomed back James and Rodney who quickly made his presence felt on the forward line with a fine running goal. Nick Ford continues to impress and soon had a few on the board with some pinpoint delivery from Patrick at centre half forward.
Some close checking on Lefty by the Reds had him taken from the field with the blood rule, but this kid is tough and he was soon back in the fray and kicked 2 goals for the game.
Jarryd just keeps floating across half back picking up a ton of possessions and then wanders down and kicks goals too. With some good ball trapping from Jack and strong physical support from William A the backs held the Reds pointless in the third.
Nick J is a symbol of why the Black's are going places this year as one of our most improved players and easily had his best game for the season with solid spoiling all day. Eddie in his first season of AFL showed off some of his Rugby tackling skills and was rewarded with a goal.
The midfield combination of Zac and Ollie are a potent force and both goalled in the third to take the game away from the Reds. The Reds got a couple back in the last quarter but it could have been a whole lot worse without some solid tackling by Lachy M and some saving marks from Nick A at fullback.
The ever reliable William P kicked another 2 to take his tally to 22 for the season equal with Lefty. With one game to go it will be interesting to see who takes out the Coleman Medal! Klaus also got amongst it too with his second goal in two weeks and just goes from strength to strength.
With one game to go and a finals berth up for grabs the Blacks face Teal in the "grudge match" next Saturday at 1.30 at Five Dock.
Special thanks to Jamie B and John F for their expert comments during the breaks.
Final Score Drummoyne Black 12.5 - 77 def Easts Red 4. 7 - 31
