Round 14 Match Report - U14
Drummoyne 6.6 42 def North Ryde 1.1 7
After a disappointing wash out last week, the boys were keen for a game of AFL and take on local rival North Ryde at Drummoyne Oval, the last home game for the minor round. It was an amazing first half ...a tight, end to end struggle with both teams struggling to score. The only goal for the half came from a 50 metre penalty in the 2nd quarter to the opponents and both teams were giving their all at both ends of the ground.
The defence this week was sensational, led by Joseph who did not let them get any easy possessions. Mitch was as solid as a rock and used his height well to rebound many of their attacks. Cameron D took a telling mark later in the game and cleared the ball a number of times. Across the centre line, Cameron G and James were quick to help out the back line when they needed it and Matt was at all the hard balls until he took a knock just before half time.
At half time, with only a couple of points in it, the game was there to be won and the team knew it. The third quarter saw Tom take control of the centre area and he worked extremely well with Jordon T to send the ball into the forwrad line time and time again. The delivery allowed Ka Yin to come into the game who kicked a great goal and Joel drifted down into the forward line to help set up a number of goals and kick one himself. The quarter proved decisive as the team kicked 4 goals but held their opponents scoreless.
The last quarter was a more even affair but the difference proved to be players like Daniel, who took a great mark and Ollie, who not only took a huge grab deep in attack, but finished with 2 goals for the quarter and put the game beyond doubt.
Enough cannot be said about the teams defence this week, they held their opponents goalless in the second half (without Matt there) and to only 1 goal for the whole game. This was a great follow up game after the tough encounter against the top team the previous match they played and hopefully builds on their confidence as they work towards a finals berth. Well played everyone, you all made a contribution to the win.
Thanks to John waving the flags, Jeff for running the boundary and the helpers in the canteen.
Goals: Ollie 2, Ka Yin, Joel, Alex, Jordon T
