Round 14 Match Report - U9 Black
Easts 9-8 (62) vs Under 9s Black 4-3 (27)
Two big hearted under 8 players in Christian and Nicky stepped up to augment Drummoyne Black’s depleted team list for the big game against Easts. The first term saw a concerted and coordinated defensive effort from Billy, Michael, Christian and Brendan held Easts scoreless and ensured that the midfielders Ethan, Fraser, Luke and Xavier were able to pass the ball forward for Ben to kick two goals. Alex, Harvey and Nicky also provided great leads and support up forward.
The second term saw Easts crowd their forward line and kick five unanswered goals from a surprised Drummoyne team. Good desperate defence ensured that Easts didn’t score more with Ethan, Harvey and Alex taking telling marks in defence. Brendan and Fraser combined well with Michael and Billy across the midfield but were outnumbered when playing forward.
Ben, Fraser, Brendan, Alex and Christian all took strong marks with Harvey taking the mark of the day. Ben and Brendan bookended the match with two goals apiece and set up numerous leads in the forward line. Billy, Michael and Luke were tenacious in defence and Xavier and Nicky provided key passes forward at crucial times. Luke did some strong tackling and Alex was always chasing the ball.
Harvey and Ethan reprised their strong performances from the last match and again were joint Most Improved Players on the day.
Fraser was Player of the Match – untiring and unstinting he chased ball all day and pushed it forward.
The last term saw some great clearing kicks out of defence finding Brendan in the forward line who kicked two goals.
