Round 14 Match Report - U9 Silver

Under 9s Silver vs Easts

Silver welcomed back their coach Steve Wall after 6 weeks away and while in recent weeks their starts have been sluggish they seemed to want to show Steve how much they had improved in his absence by producing some of their best football for the season.

From the opening bounce the team switched on. Zach won the ball out of the middle driving it forward to Luke who opened Silver's scoring with a major. This was quickly followed by a bullocking run from James out of the pack to kick his first for the term. While the centre players for Silver were winning the ball out of the middle they were ably supported by the backline with birthday boy Ryan repelling any attacks and driving the ball long into the forward line. This proved fruitful for Silver with Luke experiencing a purple patch and kicking three more goals to take his tally to four for the term. He was well supported by James who again following another bullocking run kicked his second for the term.

The second term while a little more even saw Silver extend their dominance. Ryan took an excellent mark in the centre and passed to Joshua who had lead out from full forward. While he fumbled the mark he was able to turn onto his right foot and kick the ball over his left shoulder to bounce in for another goal. Zach's move into the forward line proved beneficial as he took a wonderful one handed mark (mark of the day) and kicked a long goal. The switching around of players into the backline only strengthened Silver's defence as George continued to win the ball, play on at all costs and drive the ball quickly into the forward line. Coach Wall praised the team's endeavour and tenacity to win the football.

While Easts managed to register their first and only goal for the game in the final term, any chance of a comeback was quickly extinguished. In what was the play of the day James tapped the ball to Luke from a ruck contest in the backline who kicked long in Brendon's direction and with tremendous skill and balance Brendon was able to put the icing on the play of the day to kick the ball on the outside of his right foot for a goal. Not to be undone George matched this effort with a wonderful effort to break the first tackle and be free kicked for an illegal tackle and convert into a goal. While Zach had moved to the backline in the last term his dominance did not diminish and he continued to place his head over the ball and drive the ball into the forward line.

In what was a great team effort, Zach was awarded the best player, with Ryan and James following closely. A special mention was given to Luke for his 4 goals.
