With a freaky thunderstorm which blanketed the ground with hail 40 mins before we ran on, the Division 1 & 2 teams joined together for one final hurrah on a year of footy that has been described by most as "one of those seasons"; wrecked through injury, lack of access to training due to rain and spending a year in the wrong divisions (probably). It was fantastic to see the regulars back up for one final run around the park - even those boys who were injured who came to watch their team-mates, thank you.

It was an expected result, with Baulkham Hills the league leaders. Boy, did we give it a good crack though! Well done to everyone who gave 110% during the game. I am sure that there will be more said about the 28 or so departing U16s - those boys who can't play with Drummoyne again next year, in another article.

I just wanted to make a particular mention about one of our unsung stars who typified the spirit of the team over all these years, Jack Barnsley. Jack is one of those young men who has such a natural instinct for the game, combined with a ferocious appetite for the ball. He never stops, even when he gets clobbered and comes of with a bleeding nose and skin hanging off his knee. He just patches himself up and gets back out there. Good on you Jack! I hope you continue to play AFL next year.

As the game, which was played in fantastic spirit, came to an end the Drummoyne boys formed a guard of honour for the Baulkham Hills players, as they too had the bulk of their players playing their last game at their home ground. This gesture was very much appreciated by the Baulkham Hills Club, and after they returned the favour, the afternoon adjourned to the undercover deck for a few celebratory food and drinks for the boys and their parents.

Thank you to everyone involved with the team this year: Mik Car, Darren Lewtas and Denise Currie, our wonderful coach & management staff. To Liam Brundle, who started with these boys in Auskick and continued in the capacity of our regular boundary umpire for the last few years - you, young man, are a champion and we hope you continue to enjoy your AFL (I am sure that one of the younger teams would love your assistance!).

To the parents who've assisted as goal, boundary umpire and canteen assistant throughout the year. Thanks! If I've forgotten anyone, my apologies and you can tell me all about it if you come to the dinner on the 3rd September! :) See you there (let Maria Scott or I know if you can make it).
