Round 2 Match Report - U14
Drummoyne 7.10 (52) d Newtown 8.3 (51)
The U14s first home game on Monday ANZAC day was against Newtown, and what a beautiful day for football. We welcomed Nick K to the team and what an impact he had with his first quarter tackle, it was a beauty. Joseph (Wiseman) was on target early and kick 2 first quarter goals.. being well supported by Alex R who was busy setting up plenty of attacks. Jordan D also kicked a great goal during the first quarter.
The backs were busy too, Alex T was sticking close to his man, as he did all day, and Jack was not letting much past him. Nick B was in an under all game and had a terrific match against opposition twice his height and weight. Although the team struggled to kick straight in the second quarter (6 behinds), they had plenty of the ball and the match was being played at a furious pace.
The second half saw Joel take control of the centre area and his running through the lines was fantastic. He kicked 2 goals himself and set up many others. Daniel was getting involved and was unlucky not to kick a goal himself. At 3 quarter time, Newtown had extended their lead to 13 points and the boys needed to dig deep to get back on top.
Cameron G was again given the task of running with one of their most damaging players and did a terrific job, nullifying him completely in the last quarter. The whole team lifted as the team kicked the first goal early in the quarter and then kept at it and at it all quarter. Matt took a saving mark late in the game and Joel finished off a wonderful match with a goal to put the team in front. When the final siren went, the team did not know the final score, but had played a terrific match and finshed the stronger side.
After the goal umpires confirmed the score, Drummoyne had won by a single point ... a fantastic result for the boys. Their never say die attitude shone through again. The team has a wonderful belief in each other and they never drop their heads, supporting each other and giving their all until the final siren. The match was a terrific spectacle and one of the teams best wins in the past few years. Well done all of you.
Thanks to CK for waving the flags and Louis for running the boundary. Also to the volunteres in the canteen and on the BBQ this week.
