Round 2 Match Report - U9 Black

Drummoyne - 12.7 (79) to Glebe - 0.2 (2)

It was the first game for Under 9 Black team at our home ground with all 12 players in attendance, including Xavier who is still recovering from a broken arm but coming along to support his team.  It was the first game for the season for Ben and Alex, both returning from their Pacific holidays, and Michael who had overcome his injury and been cleared by the doctor to play.

As Glebe had 13 players, a big thank you to Darcy and Edward for playing up from the Under 8s to match numbers.

Fraser was captain and we started off with a very similar zone line up to the first game.

The first period of play saw a well drilled and skilled Glebe team match it with Jessica and the boys and Darcy and Luke both scored a goal.  The ball seesawed from one end to the other with some great defensive play by Harvey, Edward, Brendan, Samuel and Michael - who took 2 very strong marks preventing goals.

At the first break captain Fraser asked to address the team which he did and spoke about working together and the need for more handballing as an option.  In the second stanza the team ramped up another notch and gained the ascendancy on Glebe with goals kicked by Blaise (2) Fraser (2) and Jessica (1) and the whole team keeping Glebe scoreless. WELL DONE

The last period saw a very strong performance from Ben, Billy, Luke and Darcy across the Centre.  The ball was sent down to the forward line on many occasions with Luke combining well with Ben by tapping the ball into his arms and disposing it to Brendan (4) - including one from an acute angle using a banana kick- and Samuel who kicked a goal.
