Round 2 Match Report - U9 Silver

Under 9 Silver v Concord Swans

The first 15 minutes saw the Power under immense pressure and it would seem that Concord was going to blow the game wide open in the first 15 minutes.  George was managing to hold the backline together in the early part of the game providing great drive and creating many forward thrusts while in only his second game Ethan was starring in the forward line racking up possession after possession as the ball was brought to ground.  Ably supported by James who was getting first hand to the ball in the ruck and Joshua and Ryan taking marks in the forward line, the Power was not able to convert their opportunities into goals and only managed points, while towards the end of the first 15 Concord's team work paid off as they managed to register 4 majors and were well in front at the first change having kicked against the wind.

Coach Steve asked for a big effort in the second 15 as the team moved positions. It came early on as Nick handballed to Brendan who handballed to Luke, and although his shot on goal only registered a minor score it set the scene for a great fightback and was the best passage of play of the day.

The move of George into the middle provided dividends as he was able to hit the forward targets in Luke and Brendan, and with Harry and Nick having great second terms in defence, finally Luke was was able to register Drummoyne's first goal.

That first goal seemed to spark the rest of the team.  Zac as the smallest player on the field began to make his presence felt as he passed to George, who kicked Drummoyne's second goal and followed up with a second long kick to Lachlan who goaled soon after.  George was racking up the possessions in the middle and hitting his targets in Luke and Zac in the forward line, and with great support from the forwards by turning over Concord's kick-ins, Zac snapped another goal to see Drummoyne draw level at the end of the second 15.

At the final change coach Steve again moved the players around and this again seemed to help the team.  Ryan and Joshua dominated the exchanges in the middle and were able to drive the ball forward to Brendan and George, who goaled to keep Concord under pressure.  The backline, despite remaining under pressure, held up well and was well lead by Lachlan who took a couple of great marks.  George kicked the final goal of the game for Drummoyne in what was a very entertaining game of U/9s football with great improvement from all the Drummoyne boys in only their second week.
