Round 7 (make up round) Match Report - U11 Black
Under 11s Black Vs Newtown
On a beautiful winter’s day we had a makeup game against Newtown, the conditions were bit tricky with blustery conditions. We took a lot of confidence from last week’s game where we finished the game strongly.
The first quarter saw Newtown kick with a slight advantage with the wind, they got off to a flyer with a quick goal but we slowly warmed to the task and Angus and Rory were slowly taking control of the middle good play up field led a to a good snap goal by Lachlan. Our defence from that point were under siege and Lewis stood tall taking strong marks. Another quick by Newtown saw them take a slight lead at quarter time.
The second quarter saw our boys attack the ball with more venom with Peter and Rory leading the way, Newtown kicked another goal but a strong mark from Angus resulted in a good goal from him. Peter was moved to the centre with immediate effect and started to propel the ball forward which lead to a mark from Sam and kicked truly for his first goal of the season. Newtown started to dominate the centre clearances and moved the ball down field with ease and converted truly , our back were working tirelessly with Max and Murali working hard , we did manage another goal from Lachie just before the break .
The third term was a arm wrestle with the conditions playing a part our boys were tackling and attacking the ball with more purpose, good work by James and Alistair stoping Newtown attacks.
The last quarter saw Newtown take advantage of a 2 goal lead and started the quarter strongly and were starting to take control all over the ground quick back to back goals saw the open up the game and saw the open the biggest margin of the game, we did try valiantly to reduce the deficit with a good goal from Ben but were unable to make up the deficit and in the end Newtown ran our winners 52 – 35 .
When the game was over we felt we didn’t play to our best and didn’t capitalise on our chances we had a lot of the play but didn’t convert, the break would do us good and comeback fresh and raring to go again.
