Under 8s in action at Sydney Uni
Round 7 (make up round) Match Report - U8s
Under 8s v Newtown Swans
The under 8’s game on Saturday was played at the very scenic ground at Sydney University. A great day for football and with the school holidays starting – there was no Silver and Teal split – just one Drummoyne Power team this week.
A hard game right from the start made a little tougher with the Newtown team kicking with the breeze (and to the downhill end) all day. The ball spent a lot of time in the Newtown forward line – but there were great signs of team play and, just as importantly – lots of kids having a great run-around and a good time.
Players Wrap
Alistair (No. 20) – had a great second period with good kicks out of the centre and a stand out was Alistair going in hard and with courage – and earning the free kick. Well done.
Darcy (No. 0) – worked hard in defence all day, stuck with his opponent and stood the mark well and filled space to make it harder for the Newtown forwards.
Jack (No. 7) – as usual another tough and tenacious effort from the “Jack-Attack”. Always at the opposition and getting a lot of the ball. In the last period, Jack went into ruck, and got the tap – roved it himself and kicked a great pass into the forward line.
Joel (No. 9) – got things going in the first minute with a great snap goal and worked well with Jack and Angus in the game. Some good marking and passing around the ground.
Meera (No. 55) – Meera showed great defence in the game – right on her opponent and gave him nothing all day. Well done. A highlight in the last period was Meera – eyes only for the ball, went hard at it and got a boot to it and to another Power team mate.
Oscar L (No. 47) – showed a lot of courage around the ground and in the game and a highlight was Oscar’s running. In the first quarter Oscar showed great skill with a pick up off the ground and great hand pass to a team mate. Good work Oscar.
Toby (No. 13) – with Dad having no voice this week (cruelly cut down with illness – I think it was man-flu), Toby found his own direction with good work around the ground in and under, all day. Showed great initiative when in the forward line – ball wasn’t coming down there, so Toby went up the ground and got a kick forward.
Zayn (No. 5) – Showed great talking and kept to his position all day – well done. A highlight in the second period was Zayn’s handballing to teammates. Good teamwork.
Angus (No. 31) – Angus showed some good skills with a great pick up off the ground in the second period and a long run out of defence and kick forward. And Angus was at it again in the 3rd period with another great pick up and run forward. Well played.
Christian (No. 42) – Showed good skills all day and worked very well with Edward and Daniel. Christian was doing it all – rucking and getting taps in the first quarter and long kicks to team mates during the game. Very good game Christian.
Daniel (No. 15) – Worked well with Edward and Christian. Highlight was a good mark in the first period and followed up with a good pass into the forward line.
Edward (No. 3) – Another showing a good range of skills all game. Marking, kicking and even some spoiling in defence – well done. The highlight was Edward’s great goal from a long way out. The team (and the supporters) enjoyed that one.
Joe E – (No. 11) – Was the loose man up forward but the team couldn’t get it forward enough for Joe to take advantage – but this did allow Joe to work with Oscar H in the last period and fix the goal posts which had fallen down.
Joseph L (No. 64) – First gamer – Joseph had been playing tennis on Sat morning’s, but that’s now finished and Joseph can now concentrate on his football career. A livewire in defence and a highlight was his run and kick out of defence.
Nicky – (No. 30) – Another showing good football skills whether in the centre or in defence. Highlight was a strong mark with hands outstretched – this was the Mark of the Day.
Oscar H (No. 22) – Always looked threatening up forward but another the team struggled to get it to during the day. As said, worked in well with Joe E in fixing the goal posts in the last period.
Riley (No. 58) – absolute livewire who gets down on all fours and just goes in hard all day. Great defence work all day and always running.
Well done all and also a special mention and thank you to the team at Sydney Uni for the great family day.
