Round 9 Match Report - U13
Drummoyne vs. Forest at Drummoyne Oval
The footy gods were smiling on Drummoyne Oval for our first Div 2 game against Forest. The boys were ready to prove themselves especially after four weeks in the footy wasteland. We started off looking no worse for lack of match practice and had the ball in our half for most of the quarter. A great effort by Caley in this term saw him kick three goals ably assisted by Xavier and Max. DT got into the goals as well in this quarter - scoring one after a free kick was awarded. We went in to the first break with 27 keeping the opposition scoreless.
Max was hard at the ball the entire game and helped Caley set up another goal with a great kick into the forwards. Spida’s efforts in the centre and his tackling were first class as usual. Cameron’s run off the back line was explosive. Forest lifted towards the end of the quarter keeping us to just one goal and we went into the big break in front 34 - 7.
Free kicks were awarded to Alex and Brendan for their commitment to attacking the ball. Spida was our only goal kicker this term after taking a great mark and playing on. Michael’s tenacity at the ball at ground level resulted in some tunnel ball which almost paid off with a goal. Luke was impressive with a couple of big contested marks. Simon’s big left boot paid dividends as he ran up the sideline and kicked long into the forwards. At the third break we were 21 up.
Both teams were kept goal less in the last quarter due to some great contested footy. Will executed a great tackle which earned him a free kick and his second efforts at the ball this quarter were inspiring and well received by the coaching staff. Alex used his size to out body an opponent and Ben used his body well to push out an opponent and tap the ball forward to a teammate. A great team effort all round and a positive start to Div 2.
Thank you to Peter Studley for waving the little white flags and to our parents who took their turn in the canteen (albeit some a little later than scheduled because they were chatting too much!).
