U14s in a close fought match vs Pennant Hills
Round 9 Match Report - U14
Drummoyne 9.6 60 l Pennant Hills 9.9 63
The U14s were keen to play after the 3 week break and although down a few players those available were ready for a tough game against Pennant Hills. The team began well with goals to Alex (2) and Jordon T and some great attack on the ball by Cameron D and a terrific grab and a near "speccy" by Oli. The team was running well and Jordon was setting up the play from the centre bounces.
This continued into the 2nd quarter when Oli converted along with Nick G who was playing in the forward line this week and a good snap from Nick B. Daniel was after the ball when it was in attack and James was setting up the play time and time again. The opposition were getting plenty of the ball also and the back line was under pressure in the 2nd quarter however Jack was holding things together as was Jordan D and they ensured there were no easy shots on goal.
The lead blew out to 5 goals after good goals from Alex and Nick G in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter, but the game took on a very different perspective after this. Pennant Hills began to run and get the ball out of the centre and quickly added 5 goals to reduce the lead to a single point by 3 quarter time.
The boys needed to dig deep and this was particularly the case when the lead was lost early in the last quarter. To their credit they fought back well and regained the lead for a few minutes when Alex kicked truly for his 4th goal of the day. Ka Yin lifted and became involved, as did Mitch who had played a terrific game all day and finished strongly in the ruck. Unfortunately, the team could not quite hang on and in the end fell shot by a few points.
Thanks to Ben V, Xavier and Luke from the U13s who helped, particularly in the last quarter. With some additional work during the week, returning and recovering players, the team should be back on track and ready from a big game next week.
Thanks to Rod in goals, Jeff on the boundary and a special thanks to Alex for coaching the team in Simon's absence. Also to the helpers in the canteen this week.
Goals: Alex - 4, Nick G - 2, Nick B, Oli, Jordon T
