U9s Black in action vs Maroubra

Round 9 Match Report - U9 Black

Drummoyne U9s Black 5-7 (37) def Maroubra Black 2-3 (15)

On a glorious winters morning at the home ground of Drummoyne oval, the Under 9 Black team took on the coastal strength of the Maroubra Saints. From the start of the first term of the game, the Drummoyne Black team showed how all their work on getting in position and leading for the ball paid off with most of the game spent in their forward third. Ben had a spectacular first term kicking four goals, thanks to the work done by the backs and centres getting the ball into the forward line.

After a dominant first term, Brendan valiantly volunteered to play for the Maroubra team, kicking their only goal in the second term. During this time, the team started to take some strong marks with Samuel, Brendan, Blaise, Alex, Billy and Ben getting amongst the action. The second term also saw the team put together an outstanding passage of play from the backline. With a certain Maroubra goal spoiled by some great tackling, Ben dived on the loose ball, hand-passed it to Michael who broke free from the opposition, kicking it to Luke who booted it to Blaise then on to James. From a long way out James roosted the ball towards the sticks, only to have it touched on the line for a behind.

It was a great demonstration of how Jess and the boys are really starting to look for each other during the game. To round out the middle term, Samuel put one through the goals to add to the growing Drummoyne total.

All the effort of the first two terms took their toll in the final term with a lot of action in the centres and goals harder to come by for the Drummoyne team. Undeterred by the scarcity of goals, the team still worked hard, with Jess, Ethan and Harvey diving on the loose balls and working hard to move the ball towards the goal square - with James showing the way with a number of loose balls turned into possession. With the final siren, Drummoyne finished on top with a great game where all the players put in a great effort for the Power.

Congratulations to the goal scorers - Ben and Samuel (and Brendan while playing for Maroubra!)- and well done to those who took some specky marks including Samuel, James, Brendan, Blaise, Alex and Ben.

Congratulations also to Xavier who played his first official game for the Power after spending most of the season in a cast with his broken elbow.

Well done to Jess and the Boys on another great game.
