Round 9 Match Report - U9 Black
Drummoyne Black 10.9 69 vs Easts White 1.4 10
After a last minute switch in venue to Five Dock Park due to the rain at Trumper Park, due to illnesses and early vacations, ten very enthusiastic players fronted up this Saturday to take on another Easts team.
The ten players combined well to provide an almost impenetrable defence with Easts kicking their sole goal for the match in the final third. Team work was the highlight of the day with all players getting in and getting the ball out to team mates who were better placed. As the game went on, the level of handball passing increased.
The game was also punctuated by many strong marks by Drummoyne players all over the ground. Fraser, Luke, Ben, Blaise, Alex and Brendan all took strong marks with Samuel, Harvey, Michael, and Jessica all contesting for the ball strongly and then moving to get the ball out when it hit the ground. Jessica, Michael, Blaise, Samuel, Luke and Brendan also provided some strong “grab at the jersey” under 9 style tackling which ensured that Easts were prevented from playing their natural game.
The game started well with Drummoyne having five shots at goal and holding Easts scoreless. Ben and Luke were in the forwards, with Ben kicking 3 goals while Luke scored 1 goal. Blaise, Fraser and Alex took some great marks and played well, looking for players to pass to, handballing to each other and kicking to their player.
In the second stanza Blaise and Alex kicked 1 goals apiece. Fraser demonstrated great unselfish team play by taking a strong mark at centre half forward and then passing to Blaise who finished off the play with a goal.
The game finished with Brendan kicking 2 goals and Samuel getting 1.
Among many strong marks, Fraser took the mark of the day, a strong mark in the last line of defence while Ben scored goal of the day.
Well Done to Jessica and the boys, a great game, with every player taking a least one mark and everyone contributing to the score. Fraser was best team player, while Michael was most improved and Ben was player of the match.
