Under 16s do us proud - Runners-up 2009

Friday, 09th October 09

After an amazing year where the boys moved from Division 3 to Division 2 we are so proud of our Under 16s for putting on a gallant display in the GF.

If there was only one more quarter....?    As the president of the Sydney Harbour Association said in his presentation speech, it was the Game of the Day to watch. The crowd was deservedly full of praise! Thanks to all the Power support crew - it was great to see so many Power families at the game.

I just wanted to let you all know what a pleasure it has been this year assisting Mik and all of you in achieving your deserved place in last Sunday's grand final. I think you're a wonderful group of young men who have done yourselves and your families proud. What I've enjoyed the most is seeing what can be achieved when a group of individuals really come together and work as a team. Sunday was a wonderful example of that fact. Yes, we were beaten on the day, but we can satisfyingly say that we gave it our best shot. There seems to be a great deal of respect and camaraderie amongst you all, which has been wonderful to be a part of. I hope you all look back on what made the Drummoyne Power Under 16s such a great unit this year and realise that it is not only on the playing field that skills and qualities such as teamwork, leadership, tolerance, acceptance and having a sense of humour can be utilised.

Finally, I just wanted to make special mention of the boys who won't be able to play under 16s again next year. We will miss you - Tom Chard, Morgan Lee, Josh Hayward and Ethan Atkins. I hope you all continue to play Aussie Rules in some way, shape or form and that we get to see you down at Drummoyne Oval cheering on your old team-mates next season. For the rest of you, I do hope you all run around again next year. With 22 of our 26 players eligible to play Under 16s again next year we should be feeling very excited about season 2010.

Thanks to our season support crew: Rod Bertino (runner, manager), Darren Lewtas (mid-week training & match-day coach v Easts), Liam Brundle (boundary and water), Paul Kerrison (strapping), Bob Brundle (manager), John Edwards (photos), Matt Vicic (runner, water), Thomas Garrick (water, boundary), Simon Ringer & Kevin Hall (goal umpires & match-day coaches v Westbrook), Mark Lee (goal umpire), Rob Shouldice (goal umpire) Steve Chard (runner), Zoe Vicic (runner) and Ben (Mitch Wood’s mate – water).
